Preamble

Slovak Studies began publication in 1961 as the journal of the Slovak Institute in Rome. Its aim was to provide Slovak scholars, who found themselves in exile abroad due to adverse circumstances in their homeland, with a venue for publishing the results of Slovak-related research abroad and to create a platform for communication with the non-Slovak scholarly world. By 2003, thanks to the efforts of its founders and successors, thirty-four printed issues of the journal and one on CD were published, after which a long hiatus ensued. Following an agreement in 2014 between the Slovak Institute in Rome and the Slovak Historical Institute in Rome, the Slovak Historical Institute in Rome assumed the publication of Slovak Studies. Since 2015, the journal Slovak Studies. Rivista dell’Istituto Storico Slovacco di Roma has built upon the original idea of Slovak Studies – to present the research of Slovak scholars to the international scientific community.

Introductory Provisions

Art. 1
The journal Slovak Studies. Rivista dell’Istituto Storico Slovacco di Roma (hereinafter referred to as the journal) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Slovak Historical Institute in Rome (hereinafter referred to as SHÚR).

Art. 2
The journal focuses on Slovak history from the earliest times to the present. In accordance with the research priorities of SHÚR, it pays particular attention to historical relations between Slovakia and the Holy See, as well as between Slovakia and Italy.

Art. 3
The journal publishes scholarly works (studies, materials, edited documents), book reviews, annotations, and informational reports. Texts are generally published in English or Italian. Studies include abstracts and keywords in English and Italian. Contributions undergo editorial and language proofreading.

Art. 4
The journal is published in print format and is also published electronically on a dedicated website accessible via the domain addresses slovakstudies.sk and slovakstudies.it.

Art. 5
The publication frequency of the journal is annual, appearing in October.

Editorial Board and Editorial Office

Art. 6
The Editorial Board acts as the guarantor of the scientific quality of the journal and decides on its content. It has an international composition, and its members are renowned experts based at universities and research institutions. The Chair of the Editorial Board informs the members of the Editorial Board at least once a year about the content, preparations, and proposed changes regarding the journal. The Editorial Board generally conducts its proceedings online and approves the content of the upcoming issue of the journal by an absolute majority of all members, while addressing other matters related to the journal. The Editorial Board selects the peer reviewers for individual scholarly works in the journal. Membership on the Editorial Board is honorary and non-delegable. Members and the Chair of the Editorial Board are appointed and dismissed by the Director of SHÚR.

Art. 7
The Editorial Board is headed by its Chair. The Chair of the Editorial Board is appointed and dismissed by the Director of SHÚR. The Chair of the Editorial Board proposes the agenda for the Editorial Board's meetings, convenes them, and presides over them.

Art. 8
The Chair of the Editorial Board appoints and dismisses the Deputy Chair of the Editorial Board. The Deputy Chair of the Editorial Board represents the Chair to the extent specified by the Chair.

Art. 9
The executive body of the journal is its Editorial Office. It consists of the Editor-in-Chief of the journal and the editors of the journal.

Art. 10
The Editorial Office is headed by the Editor-in-Chief of the journal, who is responsible for its activities and is appointed and dismissed by the Director of SHÚR. The Editor-in-Chief of the journal coordinates the work of the Editorial Office and is responsible for publishing individual issues of the journal. The Editor-in-Chief of the journal attends the meetings of the Editorial Board.

Art. 11
The members of the Editorial Office are editors appointed and dismissed by the Director of SHÚR. In their activities, they report to the Editor-in-Chief and perform editorial duties in accordance with their instructions.

Rules of Publication

Art. 12
Manuscripts of scholarly works are evaluated by two independent reviewers appointed by the Editorial Board. Their review report serves as the basis for the Board's decision on including the contribution in an issue of the journal. The review process is double-blind. The inclusion of other contributions is decided by the Editorial Board upon the proposal of its Chair.

Art. 13
Authors are responsible for the content of their individual contributions. The journal may also publish contributions that do not necessarily align with the views of SHÚR or the members of the Editorial Board.

Art. 14
The publication ethics of the journal are governed by a separate document issued by the Director of SHÚR.

Final Provisions

Art. 15
This Statute enters into force upon signature by the Director of SHÚR.
